Why Thermal R&D?
⚠️ 2026+ Explorer Tremor and Explorer Police Interceptor Utility owners: Please see the GPF compatibility note below before ordering.
The community asked. We delivered.
After hearing from Ford Explorer Tremor owners looking for a premium exhaust system built for their platform, we went to work. The result is a dedicated Thermal R&D system combining our True Helmholtz Technology with a functional, high-clearance turndown exit.
Built for owners who want a refined, aggressive exhaust tone without sacrificing everyday comfort or capability, the Thermal R&D 2.5" Front Pipe Back Exhaust System delivers the perfect balance of sound, comfort, durability, and performance for daily driving, overlanding, off-road use, and utility applications.
Unlike a traditional cat-back, this system runs full 2.5" mandrel-bent tubing from the front pipes back, delivering a deeper, richer exhaust tone while maintaining exceptional cabin comfort. Under acceleration, the exhaust produces a clean, sporty note. At highway speeds, it remains refined and comfortable, making it an excellent choice for owners who spend long hours behind the wheel.
At the core of the system is our True Helmholtz Technology, a proprietary resonance-tuning design engineered to target and smooth out the low-frequency exhaust frequencies that can cause unwanted cabin drone and fatigue. The result is an exhaust system that delivers an aggressive tone when you get on the throttle while remaining comfortable when cruising.
Designed with overland, off-road, fleet, and utility use in mind, the turndown exit eliminates traditional rear exhaust tips for a cleaner, more functional setup. The tucked design helps keep the exhaust system out of the way while maintaining the rugged, purpose-built appearance of the Explorer Tremor.
Constructed from mandrel-bent T304 stainless steel throughout, this Ford Explorer exhaust system is built for long-term durability and corrosion resistance in demanding conditions. Whether your Explorer is a daily driver, weekend adventure vehicle, overland build, or Police Interceptor Utility, the system is engineered to handle the road and trail ahead.
The system connects directly to the OEM catalytic converters and downpipes, mounts using factory hanger locations, and requires no cutting or welding for installation. Emissions components are not removed or modified, as the front pipes install after the factory catalytic converters.

⚠️ Heads up for 2026+ Ford Explorer Tremor and Explorer Police Interceptor Utility owners: Some vehicles may be equipped with a Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF), depending on engine configuration and production specifications. Installing this exhaust system on a GPF-equipped vehicle may trigger a Check Engine Light.
Does my Explorer Tremor or Explorer Police Interceptor Utility have a GPF?
The easiest way to check is by reviewing your VIN information or the Vehicle Emissions Control Information sticker located under the hood. If GPF or Gasoline Particulate Filter is listed, this system is not compatible with your vehicle.
